Six injured in Peshawar blast

Peshawar: Six people, including a woman, were injured in a blast in Peshawar’s Kali Bari market in Saddar area on Saturday (today) morning.

As per initial reports, the explosive material was installed in a car which was parked near a mosque, police said. The car was completely destroyed in the explosion.

Nearby shops were damaged owing to the impact of the blast. “Although several come to this area to have breakfast, most shops were closed at the time of the blast,” police said.

Police said the injured have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital. According to hospital officials, all the injured are out of danger.

Security forces and bomb disposal squad reached the site of the blast and cordoned off the area.

Speaking to the media, Capital City Police Officer Peshawar Qazi Jameel said that eighth to 10 kilograms of explosive material was used in the blast. 

He added, “A white color car was used in the blast and the closed-circuit television cameras in the area will tell us where the car came from.”

Further, Minister for Health and Information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shaukat Ali Yousafzai while condemning the attack in Kali Bari market said the blast was done to create fear. “The blast was a soft target and we are not taking the incident lightly,” he added.

Yousafzai added a search operation is being conducted in the area.
