Quake again hits AJK, Punjab

MIRPUR: Another earthquake of 4.4 magnitude jolted disaster struck Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), of which tremors were felt as far as Jhelum, Lahore and Sialkot in Punjab, on Thursday.
According to detail, no further injuries or damage to buildings was reported. The quake led many residents of Mirpur, Jhelum, Lahore and Sialkot to rush out of their homes and offices.
Taking to Twitter, various people said they felt minor tremors in Lahore, with some speculating that the jolting may have been the aftershocks from the devastating earthquake two days ago when a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck parts of AJK and Punjab, lasting for at least 8-10 seconds, taking a toll on at least 37 while 460 others sustained injuries and 160 more are in critical condition.
Separately, the special assistant to prime minister on health Zafar Mirza, on Thursday, announced that the world health organisation (WHO) has handed over three million rupees worth of medicines and surgical equipment for the earthquake affectees of AJK to the government of Pakistan (GoP). The medical supplies are being rushed to Mirpur in AJK.
Meanwhile, the chief minister (CM) of Punjab Usman Buzdar, in a statement on Thursday, pledged to stand with the victims of earthquake in the AJK. He said, “The Punjab government has dispatched relief packets to Mirpur for the quake affectees” assuring “The provincial government has all the resources to help the sufferers of quake.”
