PDM bigwigs discuss alliance’s strategy for upcoming elections

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari and chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazl ur Rehman called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.
In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House, political situation in the country came under discussion.
Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi was also present in the meeting.
According to details, overall security situation of the country was also reviewed.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took the allies in confidence over ongoing situation while future strategy on country’s economic situation was also reviewed. Matters pertaining to date of elections in Punjab announced by President Dr Arif Alvi were also discussed. As per further details, PM Shehbaz has left for Lahore after discussion, while PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman have left the Prime Minister House soon after the meeting concluded.
Separately, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal on Friday said that the process of the census had been initiated in the country mentioning nobody was running away from the elections but there should be stabil-ity first.
He said the elections should be held under the new census while highlighting October 2023 as a suitable time for polls. He added there was no need for the dissolution of assemblies. Mr Iqbal suggested the politicians to wait and let the process of census be completed.
