Murree hotel agents catcall woman, prompting Punjab CM to take notice

MURREE: Another incident of alleged harassment by Murree locals has surfaced on media after hotel agents reportedly harassed a tourist couple, media reported.

According to eyewitnesses, some hotel agents catcalled at a woman tourist near Grand Post Office (GPO) Chowk when she was walking on Murree’s Mall Road with her husband around 6:30 PM. When the husband asked the agents to refrain from the lewd behaviour, the harassers pushed him.

However, although bystanders and traffic police officers present at the scene broke up the scuffle, the in-charge at the bazaar’s local check-post refused to initiate any action when the family complained, citing jurisdiction.

A video of the incident surfaced and went viral on social media as well, prompting Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to take notice and direct inspector-general (IG) for Punjab to submit a report.

Buzdar advised that the affected family should be given justice at all costs.

On the other hand, City Police Officer (CPO) for Rawalpindi suspended the in-charge as well as other officers at the police check-point. In addition, the Station House Officer (SHO) at the Murree police station stated that the alleged perpetrators have been identified and will soon be arrested.
