ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Economy Watch and Convener FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Insurance Dr Murtaza Mughal on Friday said that pharma and private hospitals mafia have stepped up their unethical practices after the coronavirus outbreak which should be curtailed.
He said that an example should be made of pharmaceuticals, private hospitals, and pharmacies that engage in overcharging to deter the rest as complaints are increasing against them. Majority of private hospitals are charging exorbitant bills for hospital care of persons who tested positive for COVID-19 which is highly illegal and unethical, he added.
Dr Murtaza Mughal said that reasonable per day tariff for each category for private hospitals should be fixed as soon as possible as government hospitals cannot accommodate the increasing number of patients which is seen as a golden opportunity by profiteers. Commenting on the ongoing oil crisis, he said that black sheep in the regulator and ministry are misguiding the government by presenting cooked statistics.
