Ensuring essential commodities on government rates directed

Staff Report

RAWALPINDI: Additional Commissioner (Coordination) Saif Anwar Jappa has said that as per the guidelines of Chief Secretary Punjab, availability of essential commodities across the division on government notified rates must be ensured. DC counters should also be established at local level wherever possible along with big stores.
Saif Anwar Jappa said that our aim is to provide relief to the people by promoting good governance. This requires all officers to be present in the field to review the ground realities and ensure implementation.
He said that in some places there were complaints of Magistrates who rather than themselves were sending staff for checking.
He warned that strict action will be taken for such practices and directed that the assistant commissioners and magistrates should go to the field themselves. No negligence in this matter will be tolerated.
These views were expressed by the Additional Commissioner while presiding over a meeting at Commissioner’s Office, Rawalpindi on Monday. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Qasim Ijaz, Assistant Commissioner (General) Maleeha Khan, Director Agriculture Dr Sajjad, Assistant Director Food Zaman Khan and other concerned officers.
Saif Anwar Jappa further said that the checking should be tightened to prevent smuggling of wheat and fertilizer so that there would be no shortage.
In addition, the Deputy Commissioners should inspect the boats in their respective districts and check them at the port to see if they are fit to ride.
Also the Deputy Commissioners should provide life jackets to the boatmen, he added.
