Citizen’s effort thwarts gang rape of girl

ISLAMABAD: A concerted effort by a citizen helped police in thwarting the gang rape of a nine year old girl. Dozens of police investigators rushed the area and held the two accused identied as Asif Ali and Muhammad Bilal Khan. A case has also been registered against the accused by the Sabzimandi police and further investigation was on, he said.
Capital Cops received a phone call at Safe City Project (Emergency Helpline) who shared that two men had caught a nine year old girl near a dumping site within limits of PS Sabzi Mandi. Giving a quick response on the phone call, SP Industrial Zone Saud Khan immediately directed SHO PS Sabzi Mandi and other team to raid the area and to arrest the accused.
Police raided the area and rounded up two accused and shifted them to in lockup. He said that the one of the accused is a truck driver and second one is a cleaner who were dumping rubble of a building when they spotted a little girl and grabbed her for rape.
A case number 74/22 under sections 376/511/377B/34 of PPC and began investigation. In a statement, SP Industrial Zone Saud Khan informed media that the recovered girl is mentally disturbed and has been handed over to Victim Handling Team of Islamabad Police Gender Protection Unit. Meanwhile, IGP Islamabad Muhammad Ahsan Younas has also appreciated the efforts of SP Industrial Zone Saud Khan and his team for responding quickly on a call made on helpline by a citizen and saved an innocent girl from becoming victim of gang rape. He also advised citizens to keep a vigil over suspicious elements around and immediately alert police on emergency helpline to arrest the criminals.
