Army Chief, Chinese Envoy mull CPEC, other matters

RAWALPINDI: China’s Ambassador to Pakistan His Excellency Nong Rong Monday called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters (GHQ), Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
According to the Army’s media wing, matters of mutual interest, bilateral defense cooperation and regional security situation including CPEC were discussed during the meeting. The presser further said both sides also discussed recent developments in Afghan peace process and current situation of Coronavirus Pandemic. COAS thanked the dignitary for China’s contribution towards fight against COVID-19 in Pakistan and said that Pakistan Army greatly values its friendly relations with China. Visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region, especially Afghan Peace Process.
Earlier in December 2020, referring to the last visit of the Chinese Defence Minister to Pakistan, COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa said that it will further strengthen their time-tested relations with our ‘Iron Brother’. China’s ambassador also appreciated Pakistan’s role for peace and stability in the region.
On November 30, China’s Minister of National Defence General Wei Fenghe called on Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Days earlier, Mr Nong Rong was called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force in his office. – Agencies
