Kyrgyz President addresses nation over border clash

Bishkek: President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov made an address to the Kyrgyz people in connection with the stabilization of the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border, his press service said.
In his address President Zhaparov said that April 28-30 have become for the people of Kyrgyzstan the days of difficult historical trials and sorrow.
“The territorial integrity and security of our sacred Fatherland were under threat, and the peace of the peaceful people was violated.
However, thanks to the preparedness, high morale and heroism of the border guards and law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan, we managed to preserve the territorial integrity of our country.
Unfortunately, we have suffered heavy losses. Thousands of our citizens were forced to leave their homes,” he said.
Zhaparov expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to hundreds of injured citizens.
“I am deeply saddened by the death of our sons and daughters, especially the death of the 12-year-old daughter of our people!,” he said. At the same the president highlighted the heroism of Kyrgyz servicemen who gave their lives to protect the interests of the country and people.
He also noted the work of doctors, rescuers and volunteers providing humanitarian assistance.
“As a result of the fearless and stubborn protection of the borders by the border guards and law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan, negotiations began, and only a diplomatic way of resolving the conflict was determined. I spoke with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon twice.
In order to avoid further escalation of the conflict, a protocol was signed following the work of intergovernmental commissions on border demarcation,” Zhaparov said.
The head of the state also said that some provocateurs are more dangerous than external forces.
“It was important to maintain order so as not to interfere with the efforts of our law enforcement agencies. For our part, we will never allow our Armed Forces to invade the villages of a neighboring state, attack civilians and destroy their homes.
I demanded that they not go outside Kyrgyzstan and not shoot first,” he said emphasizing that the sides must not allow the continuation of the armed clash. – Agencies
